Sigiriya
Sri Lanka’s Iconic Rock Fortress
Rising 370 meters above the plains, Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, this massive rock fortress was the royal stronghold of King Kassapa in the 5th century AD.
Visitors are awed by its ingenious architecture and artistry, including the lion-shaped entrance, landscaped gardens, the Mirror Wall with ancient inscriptions, and vibrant frescoes on the sheer rock face. The summit also reveals the ruins of the ancient city, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.
Beyond Sigiriya, the Cultural Triangle offers additional attractions, making it a must-visit destination for travelers interested in history, culture, and Sri Lanka’s ancient marvels.
